RE: 1972 Volunteer

This is easy take it to the local weight facility? Find a Feed Store, or some Gravel yard or something. Many of them have scales. you should try and get all individual axle weights if possible? Don't know why but thats what most everyone on this site has decided. Good luck

RE: 2007 Jazz 2550 RL?

I have the exact same unit. Couple years older. I have been very satisfied with the 5er. I did have a few early issues with it when I originally bought it. But These where all covered under warranty. I like the floor plan and hope to keep this trailer for many, many years, I m the original owner.

RE: How long should Walk thru at dealership take for inspecting?

Having previously worked at an RV Dealership and one of my jobs was to to do the new/used trailer Demo's. For us it was always really easy, because any new trailer is warranted. I demonstrated how things worked to the new owners and always let them know to ask any questions at any time. I would add my own experiences in to let them know how I did it on my own trailer. I always included that they should take along a pad and paper and write down any little cosmetic or whatever problems they encountered and bring it back after a couple of uses or a month and we would get them all fixed up. Worked very well!
Made friends with a few of them and discuss camping issues to this day 3 years later.

RE: Fridge Stopped Working

CAUTION!!!!
If you smell gas inside the Motorhome you have a leak somewhere!
This is not something to risk your life over. Get a spray bottle and some bubbles for kids and go around spraying every fitting and gas line you can find. This will help isolate down a potential leak area.
Good Luck in the search.

RE: Suburan SF35 F Furance

Although it is a major PITA to remove, the first thing I would check based on your description is for Mud Dabbers, they like to build nests in heaters. Remove(PITA) and disassemble fire tube VERY CAREFULLY! Blow out with air Compressor Air. If possible hook to a good 12V battery and maybe make an adapter for propane and try again to see if it will light.

RE: Need Help - Ripped Elec Cord Out Of 5th Wheel Trailer

Maybe you need to explain a little more! The wires are all the same color? What is your problem? Wires going into the box are all color coded and attach to specific usually similar colored wires from there. What area did the wires rip out from?

RE: adding an oven

I used to work at an RV dealership. We had a period a few years ago when ovens were not available so all trailers came in with only the stoves. As the trailers whers sold, ovens arrived. We removed the cupboard door, knocked out the filler across the top and installed the oven using just the same 4 screws which hold in the stove, exact same location of the gas line, as long as same manufacturer of course. Very easy job. We had a tape which matched the wood to cover the screw holes.

RE: 12 Volt Question

It sounds like you might have a circuit breaker or fuse inline somewhere in between battery and converter. My last TT had a reset circuit breaker under the tongue that popped one time while we went camping. When I plugged in all was fine. Noticed no power in TT after disconnected to go home, Once home started digging and found the circuit breaker. Reset it and all was fine again.

RE: Pismo State Beach - site/google map help

Only the front loop has Water and Electric. So if you need those your only option is for those. The rest of the park is all dry camping. The Hook up sights are usually assigned on a board at the entrance, not real sure about the others, I seem to remember that if you reserve, they will assign you a site on the board also, and if you don.t like it you can move the next day. You are supposed to fill out a slip upon check in for whatever site you take or are assigned.

RE: Pismo State Beach - site/google map help

Other thing is this is further south of North Beach. From North Beach go south past the Butterfly Area to the next access to the beach I think, and turn right go over the bridge and Oceano Campground is right on the right across from a park I think.

RE: Pismo State Beach - site/google map help

I have to believe that this is going to be Oceano Campground since North Beach does not have any hookups. The W/E sites at Oceano are fairly good sized, not huge but decent sized most all pull thru, this is actually about 2 long blocks from the beach. There is a trail from the no hook up area to the beach, but this does go thru sand dunes. Hope this helps you. There is also a nice little stream next to the W/E sites which usually has some ducks. last time we went they even had a racoon checking the garbage cans each night. So dont leave your dog food dish out!

RE: Door Glass

I know most all of the other windows on the trailer are heat treated, I don't know why that one would be any different. Most any Glass company ought to be able to make a template and get a piece of glass heat treated for you to replace it. I had our local glass company fabricate me one a few years ago after our Lawn Mower shot a rock into the 5er Back window 2 weeks before vacation. Had a Plexiglass fabricated for temporary and then took quite a while to get the heat treated one done, I guess they break a lot during the heat treat process.

RE: Possible electrical problem

First and most likely cause is an open ground. Start at the outlet from the power source with an electrical outlet tester, and follow the flow of electric to the trailer. This should isolate the ground point issue. Just did this for a friend a couple of weeks ago. went over. Checked plug in garage. all good, checked extension cord. Found No Ground. He was using an extension cord that he had tore the ground plug off of. Problem Solved. We have probably most all broken off a ground plug in our day! I know I have!

RE: Breakaway Controller Mistake

Just jack each individual wheel off the ground and have some one spin the tire and hit the brake control. If the magnets are working the wheel will stop immediately. This is a quick and easy way to check them.

RE: To Dodge or not to Dodge?

RE: Removing frozen bolt, any quick tips....?FIXED!

This is an old Navy Trick that I learned 20 years ago. Hopefully you can get access to some peppermint liquid. Pour this on let it sit for about 30 minutes and usually you can easily unscrew extremely rusted bolts. I have done this on Steam Catapults at sea many times. Good Luck!

RE: Problem with Suburban SW6DE water heater

First and cheapest replacement is the switch outside. I had mine go dead a while back, couldnt locate a perfect match for the switch, but went with the closest match. Works great on Electric now. Easily pops out and hook up a new $5 switch.
Good Luck

RE: How much water carried when traveling

Used to haul empty except when going to no Hookups, since last year when I had a Truck Break down enroute late, and had to sleep on the side of the road, from now on we will ALWAYS carry at least a 1/4 tank of water for bare minimum potty, coffee and brushing teeth. General Cleaning and Wash up before bed.

RE: Onboard Genset selection/options

You can do this 2 ways, First way is to mount the Generator with a Plug coming off of it to plug the trailer into (usually in the same compartment as the Electric plug comes from) or you can install a transfer switch which will automatically determine the power source and provide power that way. Make sure the Generator is properly installed and vented to prevent CO2 from entering the trailer. The exhaust needs to be vented out from under the trailer and away. For a 50 Amp trailer most factory 5ers or TT's use an Onan 5500. Hope this helps some.

RE: Poor Scout (sad)

We had a situation a couple years ago we were in large RV Resort at the coast, and brother was staying in the State Park right next door. 8 am told we could not go over to the state park because they had a mountain lion between the two areas and were trying to catch it. Maybe half hour later shots fire lion down. This is a small wooded area right on the beach! Town surrounding in all directions.
